Using information from Twitterholic, a service which tracks and ranks the Top 1000 twitterers based on the number of followers, I've compiled my own list of "Top 3 Twitterers of Each Country based on Number of Followers".Is this list exactly the same as Twitterholic?
Well, the answer is no! When you search the top followers based on a location for example UK on Twitterholic, what you see isn't really correct. It's because some people didn't type in the word "UK" under the "location" section in their profiles, and they enter "London" instead. Hence, the system isn't smart enough to detect that actually London is part of UK. So what I've done is that I've manually search for the top 3 twitterers in UK and included them in this list.
Before you proceed, do note these following points:
- all these numbers below aren't live which means that it will change over time, so the ranking will be different
- there are 192 countries in the world according to the United Nations, I'll only include 50 countries as it seems that only a few Twitterers are from Zimbabwe, Niger, Togo, etc.
- not all Twitter users shows where they're from, hence the rankings might be incorrect

[Update] After reading your great replies, I've decided to include 3 additional countries - Colombia, Ireland and Scotland. Since many of you says that Scotland is indeed a country, I've already removed it from United Kingdom. Also, I've edited the list of Netherlands (Thanks comicbase!)

Scotland isn't a country? What a crock - get your facts straight please. The UK is an administrative grouping of three countries (England, Wales and Scotland plus Northern Ireland). It may not fit into your tidy little groupings, but it is a country nonetheless.
Scotland is indeed a country!
Spotted your error - the UN list is member states not countries.
For swiss twitter users, you can take a look at swisstweets.ch
Thanks for the resource & Congratz for being #1 in Singapore!
@ JohnTaylor: Scotland isn't a country - http://geography.about.com/od/politicalgeography/a/scotlandnot.htm
@egromment: Thanks for the update!
Thanks, good idea.
Another problem: it's a "Top 3 Twitter accounts" list not "Top 3 Twitterers" - some users have 2 accounts (in mother tongue + in english) so the real number of their followers (combined) is bigger than it seems from one of their twitter account.
@xavier lur reply to @johntaylor is a bit weak about.com are not experts in everything, wikipedia has it as a country http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland
Irrespective of that, Scotland is historically a separate country that became part of Great Britain by the act of union (aka being invaded and then political niceties being put in place)
Sniff, country where I live (Isle of Man) didn't make the list.
And it's a real country, not like Scotland :P
Heh. I sure hope Scotland is a country, cos I'm living here right now!
Stephen Fry, look out!
Cool list. Thanks for the inclusion.
Basking in the above Scots' squirmation. Beautiful.
@Xavier Lur Indeed Scotland is a country, I am sitting in the Capital right now - A capital that has it's own Parliament, own tax powers, and has had a Education and Legal system for longer than England.
And we're certainly older than other countries that were formed hundreds of years after we were here.
Scotland is a testing ground Britain uses for trying out new ideas. At the moment we're testing "Credit Crunch" a deep fried batter coated digestive....early signs are TASTY!
@Digital Spaghetti How come England own you then? Are they just stronger?
cool list!!!
@Anonymous - I'm certainly not going to get into a troll war with you - but in 1707, The Act of Union joined the Scottish and English crowns, against the wishes of many Scottish People.
Where we are lucky is we have managed to keep out own identity, despite the English trying to stop it.
Anyway, my issue with the above post is not that Scotland isn't part of the UK - it is, that can't be denied. But having a little dig at Scotland, that's what p*sses me off.
You shouldn't claim to cover "each country in the world" if you don't.
Where is Costa Rica?... to name one....
Ireland?
you can't leave @orli aside when counting Israeli twitterers.. c'mon.. :)
http://twitter.com/Orli
As a Scot I must join in the chorus of clarifications that Scotland is indeed a country.
In the interests of balance though I should also suggest you include Wales as a separate country and I also wonder if the Cornish wouldn't rather be excluded from the UK bunch?
As far as the Netherlands are concerned: Erwin Blom (@erwblo) should have been in the list with his 2.299 followers. And what about Marco Derksen (@marketingfacts), followed by 2.127 people?
bummer about Colombia not making the cut. We have a fairly big community

Ha, they have Lisa Nova as tops in Italy cause she put VENICE as her location (pretty sure she meant the California Venice :)
Where's Ireland??
All this Scotland silliness...
Q COMES BEFORE R!!!!
Qatar THEN Russia.
Wish I made the top list in the US... but then I wouldn't have as much fun as I do with the group folling me now! :) Cheers!
Great list KidTechGuru!
The UK thing is easily sorted; either Scotland is a country, or England isn't. It's a logical AND gate; you can claim both, or neither.
Scotland is NOT a country, its just Englands back garden, I hope that`s cleared things up!
Hey what about Colombia.. isnt it a Country ??
You left @Orli out of your calculations .... why? She has the most followers in her country - and it ain't Scotland.
Hi,
I recommend you use this service: http://tinyurl.com/6bt3tp
It's much more accurate.
Where's Ireland?
Thanks all of you who commented! I've already updated the list by adding 3 additional countires and removed Scotland.
Great list. The only dissapointment to me is that I don't consider CNN a twitterer as they are a large new organization. Maybe I'm wrong.
AND BarackObama was a political move and hasn't posted since elections in November about 6 week or so ago.
So i think those numbers for USA are a little skewed. JMHO
Where is Paraguay???
While fun to read, lists like these will never really offer any real authority because of the amount of auto-follows that many Twitter users have in place. Show a list that actually looks at Twitter use as opposed to pure numbers and then we might be getting somewhere.
Not to shabby kid... thanks for sharing! :)

Amit bhaya Rocks! He is THE BEST BLOGGER in the WORLD
nice stuff man, but i want to know also the top from romania. thanks.
The Norway list is also all wrong. There are a bunch of people with more than 1 000 followers...
@oyvind If you know any of them, please tell me and I'll update. You show know it's quite tough for me to compile this list and get everything right as there are millions of Twitterers in the world.
Either you need to list the United Kingdom as a whole, or each of the countries that make up the United Kingdom. I know many Scots might not approve of being part of the UK, but I don't think that was the issue, the issue was that you said Scotland wasn't a country and that it was owned by the UK.
LOL, people saying that scotland isnt a country
how stupid are we getting in here?
i am ashamed for you... *yawn*
But Taiwan is NOT a country! or at least, plz remove the flag...
cool list and bravo for making waves from this part of the world!
great list, however you only include Costar Rica for central america, there is still missing, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and My country , Nicaragua.
Plus, in Nicaragua, we have our twitter community, gaining strength rapidly. u should check out http://www.twittnic.com/,
Cheers
I imagine you had a hard time whit all doze that say the data its rung and you state clarely that in not accurete but they still fight.
Somehow...somewhither...somewhence.
Elsehow...elsewhither...elsewhence.
hey, where is ecuador
I think you better check @dominicanos and @cchez for Dominican Republic! It's a Twitter (or Tuiteros) community that has been growing in leaps and bounds!
WHERE'S EDUARDO ARCOS(@earcos)HE'S VERY POPULAR AND HE HAVE A LOT OF FOLLOWERS!
Fun to read. Would be even nicher to know which accounts are followed the most by visitors from a particular country. So in that case the top 3 from the Netherlands tells me the top 3 accounts which are the most popular by Dutch tweeters.
For the Netherlands in your list. You are missing the Dutch guys who tweet in English like @boris and @jdevalk. They beat @erwblo and @marketingfacts in number of followers!
My partner and I had our city and country listed, so I had her remove the city and just list as France and she appeared today at the #6 position for France.
I changed city and am still waiting for the stats to adjust, they are slow because I made that change 2 days ago and it has not hit the system.
If you use Scotland, you should also use England. The top 3 in England have 10k, 4.2k and 1.2k.
Great list. Must have been a pain to put together.
Great List!!.
It need all night to put it together.
Good Job. :)
I am from Venezuela , can you add my country to your list?
It would be interesting
wonderful ! i was just looking for a way to open to the world and find twitterers from all over the world.
I'm surprised that you included France as a country
France is part of the UK since Joan of ark was burnt by the british crown long time ago. Although France enjoys some relative freedom it should not pretend its an independant country.
However Brittany and Alsace are missing. These regions are in fact countries, they have a flag.
Thanks
nice post
Lisa Nova (twitter.com/Lisa_Nova) was listed under Italy, because her location is VENICE. But that is not Venice in Italy. She is from USA. That is indicated on her YouTube channel: www.youtube.com/lisanova
looking forward for your next update
Nice overview.
The number one in the Netherlands (BNO news, now @breakingnewson) is not a person but a news feed & therefore should not be on this list in my opinion.
Same goes for @cnn and some others.
Number of followers has dropped for a lot of people (twitter cleanup) so those who blocked fake/spammy accounts themselves should be about same, those who did not should have dropped considerably by now.
Regards,
Marc van Maanen
wow.. I'm at no one in malaysia.. thanks... how to check this?
Great list, must work hard for next update:)
Thanks for the Dutch update, Xavier!
Hey! I'm missing Romania!!!
Plc. correct.
I'm Canadian and I'm pretty sure Scotland is a country!!
How can I check the stats for Malawi? I am new to twitter
Ummm....and what of the 180 mile peninsula of the west coast of England?
Surely Wales should be viewed separately if Scotland is?
This is a great list ... Very cool that Barack Obama is tops in the United States!!
Also, great way to learn the flags of other nations. (Particularly good if you're addicted to geo challenge on facebook as I am.)
Great Post ! I made a mindmap of it
www.visual-mapping.com/2009/01/top-twitterers-2008-mind-map.html
It is weird, that they'd have the UK AND Scotland, Ireland as a whole, and Wales not at all. Shouldn't it just be: England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales? A prevailing UK stat is okay, too, but it seems kind of odd without England and Wales listed seperately as well....
I, personally, am from Canada, so it's all academic to me. Am I missing some key piece of info, or is it just a quirk in The Way Things Are Done?
Hi,
A useful resource.
If it is possible, please include the top for Romania.
A top with most of the more than 2000 Romanian twitterers appears at http://www.zelist.ro/zetweety.html.
Thanks,
Carmen

Good idea! It doesn't matter there are not all countries mentioned or the ranks are exactly. It is fun to go through and to read the additional hints in the comments. So, it is a good idea indeed!
hey what about Ecuador , south america
A really way to hack hotmail passwords! This service is absolutely 100% no bullsh*! They really do what they say they will do and they do it quick. My advice to anyone who uses this service, however, is to really take some time to think about if you really want to go digging; because when you go digging what you will usually find, as they say, is dirt. I personally feel very liberated having found out what I did, but i also had sort of prepared myself for it beforehand and had a gut feeling already. I needed absolute proof, though, and I got it. Be careful what you wish for because if its getting into your ex's email, http://www.ActiveHackers.com will grant your wish.
I don't know what to say... I'm absolutely FLOORED. I hired them to hack into my ex's hotmail email. After about a week I became very skeptical. "OK, this guy's just making fake guestbook entries and collecting cash...". I emailed them asking if this was the case, he kindly responded that he was working on it. Next day, a screenshot. Not a doctored screenshot, because I remember what the inbox looks like and all the folders in it. No, it was real, with real emails from me. I was still skeptical, thinking, "OK, maybe he has some program that can do that, but can it really get passwords, can he hack hotmail email?" I paid, in reality it is not a lot of money in the end. The password even made me skeptical, it was so simple. Certainly it's possible, I've researched it, but could this guy really be who he says he is? But low and behold, it's the real one. I'm shocked from my doubt. This guy Active Hackers is the real thing. I'm still in shock. Thanks man, I can't thank you enough. My heart can breathe a little better, now.
That is what of how to hack a password, hire them http://www.activehackers.com if you want to know how to get into someone's hotmail account. They provide the easy way to hack yahoo and easy way to hack msn messenger. Just to help other people who may need their facebook hacking services.
Stephen Fry and John Cleese have two more followers. Thanks.
Jill
http://www.rayahari.com/hack-Facebook-passwords.php - I have only been using this for a few weeks, but so far this is the best hacking place that I have used, they know hack into facebook account , they are not only is extremely helpful, but who also seems to genuinely care. I would highly recommend RayaHari.com to anyone!
I love Raya Hari. Not only is it a fantastic deal but the staff are incredibly helpful and respond to any questions/requests extremely quickly. I would recommend this service to anyone looking for facebook hacking password.
BTW, I found another website that can hack into someones yahoo passwords and other one specialized in hack hotmail passwords.
