China Internet Users "Rule" the Web As It Soars to 298 Million

800px-Web_2.0_Map.svgAccording to the latest report by CNNIC (China Internet Network Information Center), the number of Internet users in China skyrockets to an amazing 298 million users which is quite close to the entire population of United States. In 2008, it has achieve an 41.9% increase as compared to the year before.

Even though it has a huge population of over 1.3 billion, but it has a low penetration rate of 22.6%, slightly higher than the world average of 21.9%. On the other hand, for the U.S, it currently stands at 71% (around 223.1 million).

Mobile phones Internet surfers boosted to 117.6 million, an 133% increase from 2007 with great thanks to lower cell phone prices and the expansion of the wireless network. China has given the green light to three telephone services (China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom) and prepares to launch 3G mobile phone services which support wireless web surfing. "With the development of the third generation (3G) mobile network, the wireless Internet could see explosive growth in the next few years," the report said.

Based on these statistics, it seems that within these few decades, more and more tech companies will try to target the Chinese Internet market and then China will most probably become the world technology leader.
